Aluminum Window Blinds

Airstream Aluminum Window Blinds

The next step of Kevin's restoration project is working on the window treatment. The original windows came with curtains as well as inexpensive and clumsy window blinds. The curtains were dingy looking and the window blinds were pretty much shot, according to him. He also adds that although he wants to remove these, a window treatment in the bedroom is still necessary to provide the owners some privacy.

To simplify things, Kevin decides to install aluminum blinds, which are modern, easy to adjust and will allow the owners to have the privacy that they want. The blinds that Kevin will use measure the exact length of the window opening. Prior to installing the blinds, Kevin installed a shelf sill to secure blinds, so that they are easily adjustable and will let in any light that he wants to enter the bedroom.

Kevin cut a piece of one by two board to fit the width and secured it with screws from inside the closet. He drills bracket holes into the windowsill and screwed the brackets into place. The window blinds just pop into place in the brackets. Easy!
The cool feature of the aluminum blinds is that they have no center holes; therefore it is possible to have no light at all enter the bedroom. Perfect for sleeping in!

The blinds also have a bounce back feature, making it possible to straighten them out with just a stroke of the hand, just as Kevin demonstrated. Kevin also installed hold down brackets at the bottom of the blinds, to keep the blinds taut.

Kevin also installed a new door that goes really well with the rest of the interiors of the trailer. Because he has not decided what kind of flooring he is going to use, so he temporarily placed a wooden spacer to make sure there is enough space between the bottom of the door and whatever type of flooring he decides to use later on.

The door is suspended on the top by a plastic track guide. Kevin demonstrates how the slides at the top of the door simply slide into the track. He makes sure the bottom looks good and the top looks straight and leveled. He screwed the track guide in place.

Now, there is privacy for the owners because of the sliding door between the bedroom and the living area.
