Airstream Bathroom Plumbing
In this episode of Classic Rides, host Kevin Tetz moves on to the installation of the bathroom fixtures of the vintage 1970 Airstream Overland Yacht Trailer that he is restoring.
Previously, Kevin painted the bathroom with a wonderful paint treatment. Now that the paint has cured, he says that he is now ready to put the new fixtures in. He enlists the help of master plumber Jeff Grigg with the installation of the fixtures.
They first remove the bathroom window, so that they can maneuver within the tiny bathroom easily. Kevin and Jeff show us a great looking faucet that fits easily into the existing holes of the trailer's bathroom. The faucet is silver and curvy.
Jeff recommends replacing the steel hard line with a new and flexible one. After installing the faucet in the sink, they work on installing the shower. Jeff connects the hot and cold water lines from the water supply line in the trailer to the shower.
Then they apply the shower handles for both the hot and cold shower controls. Jeff guides Kevin as he connects the two hoses that come from the faucets to the showerhead outlet.
Jeff uses a Y-fitting to connect the hot and cold supply lines from the faucet handles. He reminds us to always tighten the fittings snug, using a wrench to hold the fitting. The top of the Y-fitting is connected to the shower hose line and tightened down.
Now, Kevin shows us the showerhead, which he says looks great. This showerhead is silver and matches everything in the bathroom. It has a rubber seal and connects to the bracket and hose line on the tub, which can be tightened down with a wrench.
Lastly, Kevin mounts the showerhead mount on the same location as the old one. Now they are good to go!
