Restored Airstream
The restoration of the 1970 Airstream Overland Yacht Trailer is finally complete. Classic Rides' show host Kevin Tetz did a great job in taking us through the entire process step by step. The interiors look comfortable and luxurious and the exteriors look shiny and brand new.
Kevin is now ready to hook the trailer up and take it out camping. Kevin can hardly believe that in just a few months, they were able to take an old and dilapidated Airstream into a new and ultra- modern RV.
He is thankful for all the help he got from the professionals who helped make this restoration possible. He reminds us the importance of having professionals check on the major systems in the trailer, such as the LP gas systems, the electricals and the plumbing. This makes the trailer safer to use.
According to Kevin, the beauty of restoring an Airstream is that you can remodel the interiors to fit your needs and personal style. For this Airstream, Kevin refinished the wood, replaced the counter tops, and added some aluminum touches to give the Airstream the vintage style with the modern industrial look he was aiming for.
He also added paint, cork flooring and a new RV sofa bed gave the Airstream a warm and inviting look and feel. Kevin also replaced the appliances and got everything in good working order.
With the interiors done, Kevin was amazed with how the aluminum exterior polished up. The polishing of the trailer took over two hundred hours. But Kevin says it was well worth it.
Kevin says that the 1970 Airstream looks like a brand new trailer now. The authentic Zip Dee Awnings really dressed the trailer up, according to Kevin. It also provides good shade for the newly restored interior.
Kevin is excited to set up camp and tells us that they key to a great RV experience is to have all the comforts of home inside and outside the trailer. Kevin reminds us to take things step by step so as not to get overwhelmed for our own projects. Now, Kevin can relax and enjoy the finished product.
